India
never had it better. Some adventurous stakeholders may
go far as to say
” the World never had it better “
Then
there would be human rights’ activists and non-
romantic staid statisticians negating it – so much
poverty,injustice,unrest,disease…
Damn
these narrow minds. They have lost the ability to
celebrate. They make love like the ostrich does –
heads buried in the mattress !
I
am a shameless and unrelenting optimist when I see
India of today. The economy is booming and contrary to
the Harshad era of wheeling dealing and artificial
markets, today is the day of fundamental strength.I do
not derive my view from any deep study of economics or
of the books of the erudite. My Bible is what my eye
sees around.Harivansh Rai Bacchan has a pithy sentence
in one of his poems and he speaks of realism. He says
he does not believe in future,afterlife,rituals…..his
God is the present and his temple is the present
moment.
Last
December we were touring the remote areas of Jaisalmer
and it was a welcome change to see the town after some
20 years ( I had a one year stay in that town in the
early eighties and I went to a taat – patti
school ). What a delight to see the last man in the
last line ( the camel consort ) talking of boring well
in his farm,a phone and I saw electricity with my own
eyes.
This
is the India of today.
These
are the Sons of Fortune.
They
are born in the lap of luxury and may the laps become
cushier still.
I
am not for debating the merits and pitfalls of
modernization.I am for enjoying the honeymoon as long
as it lasts. And I am sure, with the fine governance we
have and the global attitude that sorrounds us, this
is a honeymoon to stay for a lifetime.
No
longer do I look to the West for the cordless phone
purchase. No longer do I eye laptops with ‘wish I too
could..’Adidas,Nike,Pizza Hut,Wriggleys….Cool !
Now
do you not find a trace of juvenile aspiration in my
piece.Am I not flagrantly eyeing the visible and
consumerist face of modernization.
I
am simply making the point that it is the natural
history of economic evolution, and of the closely
linked social one too, that it shall first taste the
juicy and easy to get economic consumables and then
mature into a holistically evolved one.
I
am celebrating my first step.
It
is also great that our B School
graduates are turning down offers from
overseas. It is also great that these people are
attracting the top of the rung placements and beating
the white at his own game.BPO is not just a favourable
time difference and a low paid employee. While Gaurav
plans to make his mark in his music CD company, his
colleague shall move from selling idlis to a
catering chain. It is majorly a hard working and
intelligent workforce.
Is
it not the best time for us that we can reinvent and
reinvest our burdensome population as a huge workforce
?
The
point I am trying t o make is that we never had it
better and now is the time to “say with pride I am
an Indian.”
The
tailpiece is that we are saddled now with a great
responsibility. Not to get swayed away by the good
tidings and the goodies.
The
braggart optimist that I am, I can say with certainty
that we, as parents and our sons( and daughters) of
fortune shall rise to the occasion and make the
longest lasting best out of it.
Long
live India.

The
Pediatric Clinics of Jaipur had their two
meetings on March 9 ( Bird Flu, Las Vegas
Hotel,Khandelwal Labs) and March 17
( Bacteriotherapy,Country Inn Hotel,Sanofi Aventis ).
We
had put to vote the possible timing of the next
meet.One pharmaceutical ( Wockhardt ) had proposed 25th
of March as the next meet and we had gone as far as
finalizing even the menu.Based on your feedback of not
appreciating three meets in a month,we postponed this
one and we may have this is April or May 2006.
Maybe
we will now have a rush of these Clinics.
We
take your vote on the periodicity of these.Would you
like them more often than once a month ?
q
