PEDIA MEDIA

Vol. # 1  No. 4

July  2006

Editorial

The Second Wife

I learnt the allure of a second love and did so in time. Lucky for me.

For close to a decade and a half I chased my profession and did so blindly. I clothed it in devotion,   dedication, mission, zeal, career furtherance…..

Love, they say, is blind.

I feel it is the fool in love who is blind.

My father ( God bless his soul. He is no more ) oversaw me with an expression spanning a bewildering range of emotions. Amusement, distrust, dismay, forgiving…………and disgust.

Then one fine day providence made me just kick it all.

I now learnt the value of going out socially, reading and reading like a maniac, listening to choicest Hindustani classical music. I savour every note, swirl every inflection, rise and fall with the music. I get clutched in the Gandharv orgasm.

I now have cognac with my ears !

Please, all of you, develop a hobby and then follow it with as much passion as you follow your profession.

For, when the profession ceases to satiate your soul, none else may come to rescue your higher consciousness.

The Time magazine has a nice punch line – Understanding comes with  TIME !

The time has come for all of us. No matter whether you are a decade older or a decade younger. For you may have just a few more decades to go.

Pamper your hobby more than you may pamper the profession. Shower all affection and gifts on the second love and see the magic !

And also be sure, when you are in trouble yourself, none may come to ask about your welfare. None for the lost sleep, missed  meals, missed holidays.

Laxmi must be earned. More importantly, you have to learn the skill of its bhog . Only then are you a complete man.

Dear Friend of the Academy

We are happy indeed to bring out the promised fourth issue of Pedia Media
a bit late this time albeit

We had announced to run Pedia Media as a monthly. The last one came in
May
2006.Here we go !

q       I A P JAIPUR’S WEBSITE    www.iapjaipur.org

The proposed site is now up.It is still quite incomplete and one wonders when we shall be able to say it is complete. The dynamicity of websites perhaps precludes this.

Refinement, updation and ensuring currency of content takes time and we hope you shall allot us some time to do so. We have engaged M/S Technoedge,Jaipur  for the Site development and maintenance.

This process is sure to get greatly facilitated through your active involvement. If you can not contribute much by means of content, please do us the favour of giving feedback and comments .

Your specific contribution is needed in the following areas:

q    Please send in your completed data so that we may have a completely    current and accurate database of members

q    Preferably do it on the site so that updation is instant.

q    Please do send in a photograph ( recent, coloured, passport ) either through e  mail or by post. You may be left out on the site if you do not.Surely, you do not want to be the odd one out.

q     Please send in your recent achievements by email

q     An ever standing request. Please do send in material for publication either in
 Pedia Media or online.

We have also planned that CDs of the slideshow of various speakers in the CMEs be loaded on the site for your convenience.

If you have some similar powerpoint presentations or other material, please come forward.

I A P Jaipur Secretariat has engaged a full time computer data entry operator and web professional to keep the Site as current and alive as we may.

q       MONTHLY CLINICAL MEETS:

The Pediatric Clinics of Jaipur had their last meeting on 17th  of June 2006 at Hotel Welcomgroup Mansingh Towers,Jaipur and was organized by VHB Life Scineces.

The topic was Chronic Hepatitis B and Role of Hepatitis B  Immunoglobulin. Dr S K Yachha , Professor and Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology,SGPGI,Lucknow was the guest speaker. He made his signature scintillating performance and unfolded pearls as a magician would.

We engaged his attention at another pre CME session at SDMH Conference hall in the early evening and he covered three topics : Wilson Disease,Celiac Disease and Neonatal Cholestasis Syndrome. This was well attended by Consultants and Residents and Senior Residents.

The second session was on Varicella and was taken up by Dr Raju C Shah,

( from Ahmedabad ) Past President of I A P and he brought out  the fine points in this apparently benign disease.

Dr R K Agrawal from Udaipur was a guest faculty and chaired both the sessions.

The local Co Chairpersons were Dr Sitaraman and Dr Rajeev Bansal.

The night session went on for a marathon 3 hours and we went on to cocktails and dinner at some 11:30 pm.

GSK ( Vaccine Division ) and Wockhardt are actively involved in  decision making and we may announce the next CME soon.

q        BOOKS &  PUBLICATIONS :

A chapter entitled "Some Ethical Issues Arising from Polio Eradication Programmes in India", by Dr.Yash Paul is being published in 'Ethics and Infectious Disease', by Blackwell Publishing Ltd., U.K.

q       I A P MEMBERSHIP AMOUNT HAS BEEN RAISED :

It saddens us to note that out of the some 300 Pediatricians in Jaipur, we have only  153 on our rolls. This may translate to under 50 %.

You may recall that we had announced in the past some issues of Pedia Media that a proposal for increasing the membership fee is on. The GBM held on 1st of July 2006 has now approved a fee revision. It was proposed to double the fee across all categories but they were considerate enough to effect a 1.5 times hike.

The Executive Body has been given the discretion to decide the time frame. It has been decided to give all potential members a last chance till 15th of August 2006 at current charges.

The revised charged shall be :
