HOW
TO SELL YOURSELF
Sorry
for venturing into the hallowed portal of a management guru.
Sorry also for jolting you rudely.
Sorry,
above all, for putting you up for sale.
I maintain that one’s life skills and professional skills need
continuous upscaling and dovetailing with current thought and current
times.
What
you thought was the incontrovertible TRUTH yesterday may graduate to a
half-truth today and needs redefining.
If
you thought you could run your life on old fashioned batteries today,
well …….okay !
I
have learnt in my short career and limited experience that to be a
successful Doctor you have to be good at heart and keep the patient’
s interest foremost.
Now,
this burdens me with a serious load and responsibility.
Whatever
I think is good for the patient needs to be conveyed to him. It needs
to be conveyed in a convincing manner. The manner has to be such that
you should be able to convert his thought into positive action. And
this action should be in line with what you have thought.
I
think you have got my idea now.
I
need to have a well formulated and clear plan in my own mind.I should
have the proper wording and body language that should get the desired
result.
Perfect
material and perfect packaging.
Imagine
the fiasco situation.Yiou have the noblest of intentions and the
purpose is distinctly the interest of the benefactor. But, the way you
put the message offers poor conviction and the result is, at best
suboptimal,or , at the worst, a failure.
All
your studies, training and specialization go down the drain. You
intended good but went flat.
The
resultant was that the person who could benefit so much from you has
been deprived.
I
find this another form of poor service delivery.
May
I extend my logic to call it a failed promise, a failed effort and a
short changing as far as the patient is concerned.
May
I even say that you have failed in your duty. Heretic , is it not !
Why
else do you think some of your colleagues who were “average’
during medical studies have turned out to be “successful’ .
Use
your packaging skills to the best,
Hone
and refine the skill if you have it.
Learn
it if do not have it.
God
bless you if you refuse to accept this.

RAJASTHAN
CHAPTER OF THE CMEG - 8th
October 2006 :
We
have covered sufficient ground since inception. It is only logical that
we take the next step.
The
next logical step was the long awaited launch of a State Chapter of
the Computers and Medical Electronics Group of the I A P ( CMEG-I A P
).
In
this context we have invited Dr C P Bansal of Gwalior, Secretary of
the CMEG to do us the honour.
This
was done as a formal ceremony on the 8th of October 2006 at
Hotel Maharani Plaza.
The
following team took over as the founder body :
President
Dr B K Jain,Jaipur
Secretary
Dr Ashutosh Jindal,Jaipur
Treasurer
Dr A M Kamdar,Jaipur
Executive
Members Dr Pramod Sharma, Jodhpur
Dr Avinash Bansal,Kota
Dr Ashok Lodha,Alwar
Dr Alok Gupta,Jaipur
Dr Sushil Sanghi,Jaipur
One
needs to be a life member of the Central Group to join the State
Chapter.
Please
get back for any interest you may have in joining the Chapter.
In the
beginning, we have a simple yet targeted agenda of simply enrolling
more users of the Computer.
The key
idea is to remove the fear of the unknown. Better and more widespread
use will logically follow.
What
may help in this is :
Simple
exploration of the Computer to remove fear
Tasting
the beauty of powerful softwares like MSWord,Excel and Powerpoint
Refining
the existing use of these so as to make you more proficient users
Understanding
email and basic net surfing
We may
invite local faculty and club these brief activities in our regular
CMEs so that you do not have to make a special visit for these
activities.
Of
course, a more evolved schedule will also come up.
The tentative
plan of activities is brief lectures and demonstration on :
q
How to choose a PC
q
Presentation techniques
q
Searching the internet
q
Designing a website
q
Use of computers by Pediatricians
q
Artificial intelligence
q

–
OFFICIAL LAUNCH :
This
was done formally in the same ceremony.
The
site has been operational for over 4 months but we await your
contribution. We await your participation also in the form of sending
in your latest coloured photograph.
The
eventual plan is to have all members on the net.All actually are done
with loading all data of all members on the site ( in the Members’
List link). There are only a handful few who have sent in their
photographs.
We
hate to see so many handsome faces missing !
q
MONTHLY CLINICAL
MEETS: TWO MEETINGS HELD :
We have had 2 sessions of CMEs in the month
passed since publication of the last issue of Pedia Media.
o
ZINC
IN ACUTE DIARRHEA & LIVER TRANSPLANTATION – HOTEL MANSINGH –
12th August
This session had
two important topics covered and generated a lost of participant
interest. The first was a session on the Role of Zinc in Acute Diarrhea
and was followed by a very interesting session on Liver Potpourri and
Liver Transplantation. The ever increasing relevance of zinc in several
diseases, especially Acute Diarrhea was highlighted and positive
recommendation was reiterated.
Liver Potpourri
included a short selection of various liver disease case capsules. This
made for a nice overview of the variety that the liver in disease has
to offer. How it may baffle the best equipped was shown effectively.
We were fortunate
to have Dr Neelam Mohan, a fellow in Pediatric GE and Hepatology
delivering her lecture. She is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Liver
Transplant Physician at Sir Gangaram Hospital,New Delhi.
Her excellent
overview of the issues involved in Pediatric Liver Transplantation were just what the audience needed as a
information gap-filler.
This session was
sponsored by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd.
o
PARADIGMS
IN IMMUNIZATION – HOTEL COUNTRY INN – 29th September :
For the first time
we had a CME in which a foreign delegate came to deliver a talk.
Dr Danielle Kohle,
Director Worldwide Vaccinology with GSK works at Belgium. She
delivered a superb session in which she covered almost all the
vaccines that we cover in India and all this is just 44 minutes !
This gave us a
nice overview of the present scenario, rounded up many controversies
and showed us the exciting destinations of future vaccines.
Dr Sangeeta Madhok,
Pediatrician from Mumbai also delivered a talk. Her topic was
Pharmacovigilance in Vaccines.
Dr Yashpaul and Dr
B M Raturi were the Chairpersons for the sessions.
This was sponsored
by GSK , Vaccine Division and is the second in their series of
hospitality.

ASK I A P PROGRAMME : 8Th
October 2006 – HOTEL MAHARANI PLAZA
The Presidential
Action Plan 2006 of I A P Mumbai has envisaged a very large role of
its won self and naturally calls for effective coordination and
delivery at the Branch end.
ASK I A P
Programme is one such activity.
It was
planned that evidence based practice be tested and encouraged in
Pediatricians. As an aid to this goal, a AV Module consisting of
carefully chosen topics of common pediatric import were selected. They
were built around a case scenario, some intentional gaps were left and
the target of vigorous participant interaction was evoked. The faculty
tried to take all down the lane of thought and guide all to a logical
conclusion.
The topics
covered were
Dengue
Cervical
Adenopathy
Purpura
GERD,
Obesity
UTI
Recurrent
Pneumonia.
As a gesture
of spontaneity and based on popular demand, Dr J Singh
gave a brief lecture on
Pediatric HIV. His forceful manner and inimitable style of pressing
the point home was delightful.
A 4 page
pull out is attached in this issue and may give you a specific idea
and guidelines regarding this emerging issue.
The two
outstation faculty members were Dr
Anupam Sachdev,
a prominent Hemato Oncologist from Sir Gangaram Hospital,New Delhi and
Dr C P Bansal from Gwalior.
The local
faculty included Dr M L Gupta
and Dr R K Gupta.
65 members
of I A P Jaipur and some neighbouring towns were in attendance and the
session had a spell bound audience right from 2 pm through 8 pm at
Hotel Maharani Plaza.
Participation
Certificates have been delivered to participants.
A handsome
book entitled ASKI A P Handbook, published by I A P Mumbai was given
to all participants. This book has a good keep value and has valuable
messages regarding these and several other cases.
